A car’s windshield does not simply protect from the
gushing wind and other elements while driving, it is an integral auto part
which makes a car safer to drive. It
holds the top of the car (roof) by providing support which will guarantee that
incase of accidents, airbags will be deployed at the right moment.
Cracks in your windshield require immediate attention as
a small crack could lead to a bigger one, resulting in the inability to repair
them. If the repair job is overdue then repairing in this case can prove
useless and you will have to replace the whole thing by shelling out more
charges.
Can your Car’s Windshield be repaired?
Although modern technology has made it possible to repair
windshields which would have been dumped in earlier years however, even highly
advanced glass repairing techniques have a certain limited factor.
The severity of the damage (size and location) will
determine whether your car needs a windshield repair or replacement. These days most of the auto body shops
are equipped to perform repairing of cracks up to a maximum of a few inches
long, a larger crack will require replacement.
The area or location of the damage will also let you know
whether your windshield can be repaired or you have to spend extra dollars to
get the replacement done. When the crack is formed at the edges, it results in
the damage spreading quicker which may damage the whole structure of the
windshield.
The Procedure Involved in Repairing
During windshield repairing the technician follows the
process of injecting a special resin inside the damaged area. The resin is
injected with a specialized tool; this will cure and polish the windshield by
restoring its structure and functionality.
