Processes of Windshield Repair and Replacement

Should you repair or replace a windshield? It depends entirely on the nature and the size of damage. Seeing the importance of this structure, you should repair or replace it at the earliest. Experts in the windshield repair and replacement industry follow a few foolproof processes to complete their jobs.

The first thing they would do is to clean the chip and remove air pockets that might have formed inside the damaged area. Next, they would use a drill to open the chip slightly. This would allow the repair resin to flow evenly into the parts of the chip. Then the experts would inject the resin into the chip. Finally, they would use ultraviolet light to cure the resin and form a seamless bond with the glass. Usually the whole process takes nearly half an hour.

If the damage is beyond repair, a replacement is the only solution. The windshield expert would start by removing the plastic surround side and top moldings. They would cut the urethane from the outside between the glass and the pinch weld, using a cold knife and then prepare the pinch weld. They would continue preparing the glass with a primer matched to the urethane adhesive and apply the urethane with a caulking gun. Finally, they would place the windshield in, while aligning the top bottom and the sides.
